Dyper Converts Soiled Diapers and Wipes into Usable Biochar at Scale

New Byochar technology will debut in select markets in 2023


Dyper has become the first diaper company in the world to successfully "burn" diapers using its Byochar technology.

 

With this innovation, Dyper enters the biochar economy by converting soiled diapers into biochar. Biochar, a carbon-rich product produced through a heating process called pyrolysis, can turn waste into reusable goods, improve soil, help with air and water purification, and become an additive in paints and inks to Improve pigments.

Byochar is Dyper's latest eco-friendly innovation. Dyper's Landfill Avoidance Program Redyper, a leader in the premium disposable diaper category with diapers made from plant-based materials and free from harmful ingredients, has diverted more than 11.5 million pounds of waste from landfills, converting them to Used diapers and wipes are turned into nourishment - fertile topsoil for large-scale landscaping, roadside planting and growing sod. Benefits of Byochar

Biochar technology is not new, but until now, it has not been used to solve the problem of disposable diaper waste. Other benefits of the technology include:

Ø Redyper currently composts diaper waste to create beneficial topsoil. Byochar will reduce processing time from months to minutes.

Ø Carbon sequestration captures carbon and keeps it inert in the soil for thousands of years, preventing it from being released into the atmosphere as a harmful greenhouse gas.

Ø Biochar can be used as a soil conditioner, concrete and asphalt filler, aids in air purification and water filtration, and an additive to paint and ink pigments.

Ø Efficient Byochar reactors require less space and electricity than conventional composting facilities.

Ø The Byochar reactor can process 2 tons of diapers per day. That's about 7200 diapers every 10 hours, or 12 diapers per minute.

Ø Converting Dyper diapers and wipes to biochar reduces mass by 80%. For example, 100 pounds of dry diapers produce approximately 20 pounds of biochar.

 

In the future, Byochar may be compatible with other diaper brands, which would effectively eliminate diaper waste (4% of solid waste) entirely, but is currently not compatible with non-Dyper products. Byochar may eventually generate carbon credits and may sell the credits on the trading market.
