Breathability is an important factor affecting comfort. Diapers with poor breathability can easily cause symptoms like diaper rash and eczema. Most people think that the thinner the diaper, the more breathable it is. In fact, the breathability of a diaper is not necessarily related to its thickness, but more closely related to its backsheet. Therefore, this time we chose the backsheet of the diaper as the test object, which is closer to the real situation of the product. According to the information on the packaging of the 10 tested diapers, most of the products indicate that the backsheet material is "PE film" or "breathable film". In fact, products with high breathability rates are not necessarily the thinnest. Therefore, we recommend that parents should not simply measure the breathability of a product based on its thickness when choosing diapers. Permeability Test
After a child defecates, the gap between the diaper and the skin becomes warm and humid. If the permeability of the diaper is poor, the resulting heat can make infants uncomfortable and, in severe cases, can even cause eczema. Consumer reports refer to GB/T 12704.1-2009 "Textiles - Fabric permeability test method Part 1: Moisture absorption method", and tested the permeability of the backsheet of 10 diapers.
The results show that the two diapers on the left have relatively high permeability, while the two on the right have relatively low permeability. Leakage Test
Permeability performance determines the absorption capacity of the product, which is a key indicator of the performance of a diaper, including the diaper's ability to absorb urine quickly, lock in urine without back leakage, and prevent leaks. According to GB/T 28004.1—2021 "Diapers Part 1: Baby Diapers", the sliding penetration volume of baby diapers has been changed to be replaced by absorption speed. The requirement for the first time is ≤50s, the second time is ≤100s, the return penetration volume is ≤15g, and the leakage volume is ≤1g. In addition, the new standard has added a side leakage prevention performance indicator, which helps to ensure the anti-leakage function of diapers in different positions.
