Suominen is Adding New Line in Spain

Suominen is strengthening its capabilities in sustainable products by investing in a new production line at its site in Alicante, Spain. The new production line increases Suominen’s Card-Pulp-Card (CPC) capacity and was made in line with Suominen’s strategy and vision to be the frontrunner in sustainability.
“With this investment we respond to the accelerating demand of sustainable nonwovens in Europe. This investment is made to enhance our profitability and competitiveness,” says Tommi Björnman, president and CEO.
The total value of the investment is approximately €20 million and the investment project will be completed in the second half of 2025.

Nonwovens Production and Demand Gradually Recovers in China
By China Nonwovens and Industrial Textiles Association (CNITA) According to the statistics of CNITA, the output of nonwovens in China in 2023 was 8.143 million tons, showing a year-on-year increase of 0.1%. Spunbonded, needlepunched and spunlaced remained the largest processes for nonwovens in China in 2023. Among them, spunbonded nonwovens output decreased by 7.1% year-on-year to 3.87 million tons due to the decline in demand for medical, healthcare and hygiene use. The market demand for needlepunched nonwovens continued to grow due to the growth of applications in construction, building, automotive and environmental protection. The output of needlepunched nonwovens increased 8.3% year-on-year to 1.73 million tons. The rapid growth of nonwoven wipes has driven the growth of spunlaced nonwovens. The output of spunlaced nonwovens reached 1.54 million tons, up 7.7% year-on-year. The output of meltblown nonwovens was 140,000 tons, down 47.8% year on year, as the market demand for anti-pandemic materials dropped significantly in 2023.
