Four Signs You Should Size Up For Your Baby Diapers

size up diaperThrough out their diaper days, your baby will go through many different sizes of diapers. Most babies probably start with 'size S' diapers, which generally accommodate infants up to 14 pounds. As your baby grows and becomes more active, the need for diapering changes. Our babies will eventually upsize; here at Xili Hygiene, we crafted diapers in sizes NB through XXXXL. Babies are shaped differently from one another—some are skinnier and some are chubbier than others. Finding the best fit is important to prevent diaper leakage. The bigger the size, the more materials are added to ensure maximum absorbency and better fit for a growing baby.

To figure out if your baby needs a new size in diapers, here are 4 common signs to help:

1) Your baby is having trouble adjusting

If you notice that your baby seems to be having trouble adjusting to his or her diaper, there's a good chance that it's too small. For example, if you notice that your baby isn't able to sit down in his or her diaper as comfortably as he or she could when using an older size, chances are his or her thighs and waist will feel tight. This can cause discomfort and lead to problematic leaks over time! You might also notice that they seem to be having trouble standing up straight with their legs spread apart because they're unable to fit their feet between their legs without feeling like they're going to lose balance.

Your child's weight will determine the size of diaper they need. If you're unsure what size your child is wearing, check out the chart below.

2) Noticing chafing? Your baby's skin is red and sore because there is not enough airflow.

If you notice any signs of chafing—itchy skin, redness, or even bleeding—then it's time to check out what size your baby's in! Chafing can be caused by too much wetness or not enough absorbency from non toxic diapers. If this happens often, consider switching brands or types of diapers until you find one that fits better for your baby's needs.

It is always important to know how tight a diaper should be. If your baby has a rash around his or her tights it could be due to irritation from a tight fit.

3) Connecting the diaper tabs at your baby's waist is difficult.

A properly fitting baby diaper should close easily without having to tug and pull at them. You will know if it's a proper fitting if the diaper is located just slightly below your little one's belly button. If it's fitting a little more like a low rise, it's time to size up!

4) You notice that the diaper leaks after only a few hours.

That's because it's too small.

If he or she is under 10 pounds, for example, consider going with a size one diaper. If he or she is over 10 pounds, consider going with a size two diaper. If your child is between these two weights and has been wearing the same size for a while now, it might be time to switch up their size.

The most important thing to consider when sizing up your baby's diapers is how comfortable they feel when they're on the changing table. You don't want any skin to get pinched between the waistband and the elastic or around any of the fasteners on the diaper itself—that could cause rashes or other discomforts for both baby and mommies!
